The Sons of Confederate Veterans organization(SCV) is a direct
desendant of the United Confederate Veterans(UCV),a voluntary
organization of many of the veterans who fought so gallantly for the
Confederacy during its brief existence(1861-1865).The SCV was organized
at Richmond,Virginia in 1896 at the Convention of the UCV.Initially, the
SCV was charged with two duties. These were(1) assisting the UCV and its
elderly members at thier conventions and other activities and (2)
ensuring that the true history of the Cofederacy and its struggle be
accurately documented. The SCV continues to
exist and grow as an historical, patriotic and non-political
organization dedicated to ensuring that a true history of the 1861-1865
period is preserved. Membership is open to
all male desendants(direct or collateral) of any person who served
honorably in the Cofederate armed forces. The SCV is not affiliated with
any organization other than the Military Order of Stars and
Bars(MOSB),an organization of male desendants of Confederate officers
and members of the civil government. In
September 1861,one hundred thirty Moore County patriots formed Company C
of the 35th Infantry Regiment,North Carolina State Troops to help
defend their homes and new country against an invading army. They called
themselves"Scotch Riflemen"to reflect their status as infantrymen and
as desendants of 18th century Scottish settlers.
They,along with 1100 other citizen-soldiers of Moore County,would serve
the cause of Southern Independance by fighting for the Confederate
States of America during the War Between The States.
To honor their sacrifice, twelve charter members of the Scotch Riflemen
Camp # 2001,Sons of Confederate Veterans held their first meeting on
November 14,2002 at the McDuffie American Legion Post near West
End,North Carolina. Today, membership in the Scotch Riflemen Camp affords
the opportunity to serve the community and honor our Confederate
ancestors through historic and civic activities. The camp supports a
mission of promoting the history of the Confederacy and promoting the
legacy and good name of the Confederate soldier.
Do you have an ancestor who served in the Cofederate army, navy, marines
or government? If the answer is yes, contact us today. You may be elegible
